Postural Correction
Postural correction therapy aims to rectify imbalances in body alignment that can lead to chronic pain, discomfort, and even decreased mobility. Dr. Boehler incorporates a “whole body” approach that targets any imbalances that can cause stress to a particular area of the body.
Postural assessment and correction: During the evaluation a thorough assessment of one’s standing posture is conducted to identify an individual’s deviations. From there, muscle imbalances that are contributing to stress in a certain area of the body are determined. Imbalances are then corrected by use of the latest manual techniques available. Sessions are primarily focused on providing manual treatment that an individual cannot perform on their own. A concise exercise program is formulated however, for an individual to complete at home. This again allows for the most efficient and optimal treatment plan for faster results. Individuals typically experience pain relief after only 1 session and an average of 75% improvement within 2-3 sessions. If relief is not achieved within this time frame the proper referral will be made. Postural correction is the future of pain relief providing quick results and longer lasting relief. Dr. Boehler is highly trained in techniques including dry needling, active release, cupping, mobilization/manipulation, muscle energy, and massage.
Dry Needling: This is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain. During dry needling, a practitioner inserts several filiform needles into your skin. These needles are thin, short, stainless steel needles that do not inject fluid into the body, hence the name “dry.” The needles are inserted into areas of the muscle known as trigger points. A trigger point is a local contracture or tight band in a muscle fiber that can disrupt function, restrict range of motion, refer pain, or cause local tenderness. When the needle is inserted, it can help release the knot and relieve any muscle pain or spasms. The needles will remain in your skin for a short period of time. The practitioner may also manipulate the needles to achieve the desired effect.
Benefits of Dry Needling include:
- Relief from muscle stiffness and pain
- Improved flexibility and range of motion
- Enhanced muscle performance
- Reduction in myofascial pain syndromes
Active Release: Active release is a soft tissue technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia (connective tissue), and nerves. People with various types of musculoskeletal conditions can benefit from active release. These conditions all have one important similarity: They are frequently the result of overused muscles, causing muscle spasm, scar tissue and eventual loss of function within a region of the body.
Benefits of Active Release include:
- Relief from muscle stiffness and pain
- Improved flexibility and range of motion
- Enhanced muscle performance
- Reduction in myofascial pain syndromes
Cupping: Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. The cups can be made of various materials, including glass, bamboo, or silicone. The suction created by the cupping can increase blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed, which is believed to relieve muscle tension, improve overall blood flow, and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.
Benefits of Cupping include:
- Promotion of blood flow to areas of muscle tension
- Acceleration of the healing process
- Relief from inflammation and associated pain
Together, these therapies can be part of a comprehensive treatment strategy to address postural issues, alleviate pain, and enhance overall physical function. Each therapy can be tailored to the specific needs of the patient and are often used in conjunction with other physical therapy techniques for maximum benefit.
